According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 264 million people suffer from depression globally, with many of these people also experiencing symptoms of anxiety. Whilst in Singapore, latest nationwide study shows 1 in 7 people in Singapore has experienced a mental disorder in their lifetime.
In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic the government is recognizing that more people having burnout, stress and depression in silence. Mental health is just as important as physical health and it can have a significant impact on workers’ productivity. Mental health plays very important part in building a healthier and more resilient Singapore workforce.
Therefore, for this year Corporate Social Event, HG Metal Group has organized Mental Health Virtual Workshop as one of the initiatives to raise mental health awareness among HG staffs.
There were two streams of workshop series, catered to both employees and managers, which provide a safe and open environment for participants to learn and discuss about personal mental wellbeing. The workshop “Positive Thinking” held on 23 July 2021, 1:30-2:30pm has benefits 90% of general employee. This workshop aims to assist employees challenge their negative thinking patterns and to help delegates think more positively.
Separately, the workshop “Understanding Mental Health” held on 23 July 2021, 3-4pm, this session is meant for managers, supervisors or equivalent. It helps delegates better understand mental health. This includes explaining some of the more common mental health conditions alongside the continuum of mental health to help recognize the signs and symptoms we could see if a staff member is struggling with their mental wellbeing. A total of 20 manager/supervisor (out of 23) has attended the workshop and gave positive feedback.
